The Need Project

How the NEED Project helps Main School

By Jan Marholoin Technology Coordinator CUSD

Students learn about energy and make energy conservation posters! This poster was made by Samantha Hudson from Mrs. Whites Class!

Ever play Energy Jeopardy or Energy Bingo? How about attend an Energy Rock Performance? These and other innovative classroom activities are part of the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project's Activities. Main School students are using the Need Projects activities and materials to better understand energy and how we can conserve it.

The Project highlights both renewable and nonrenewable energy sources by using their energy curriculum. The NEED Project is in complete alignment with California State Science Standards. "One of my personal goals which is also in our school-wide goals is to increase the integration of science into technology, explained Julie Cole, Technology Coordinator at Main Elementary School in Carpinteria. "Energy conservation and awareness is a big part of our curriculum! I am looking forward to educating all of my students and our global community with our new CyberFair website, which will focus on our environment and energy conservation."

"NEED should be complimented for delivering factual information on a subject -ENERGY - that is often distorted by political agendas. On the NEED website you can see the advantages and disadvantages of each type of energy- solar, wind, fossil fuels, etc.," stated Mike Edwards, Vice President of Venoco Inc.

The NEED Project's mission is to create an energy conscious and educated society by developing networks of business, government and community leaders with students and educators to design and deliver multisided energy education programs.
