Orchard to Ocean Run

The Orchard to Ocean run is a fundraiser to raise money for the Carpinteria and Unified School District. The Orchard to Ocean Run has been going on for ten years. The Carpinteria Education Foundation (CEF) has sponsored the Orchard to Ocean Run for 4 years. If you want to contact them you can at (805) 566-7186 or P.O. Box 9, Carpinteria, CA 93014.

We were able to interview Karen Gebhart, a graphic designer, and a volunteer. This is her fourth year designing the logo for this event. The logo appears on all of the posters, advertising and t-shirts that all of the participants receive. You can see the 2002 logo at the top of the page. Anyone that is interested in purchasing a t-shirt can contact CEF.

The Orchard to Ocean Run has been hosted at Main School for 2 years. It will be hosted here again this year. They liked the beautiful sights at our school. Before they hosted the run at Main they hosted it at the Middle School.

In 1999 Main School received approximately $1,200! In 2000 Main received about $1,500. In 2001 Main received about the same amount of money as the year before! The fundraiser earned almost 22,000 dollars last year. There are several expenses such as; timing, medals, ribbons, advertising, posters, t-shirts, balloons, and custodian fees. After expenses this event brought in a net amount of 17,000 dollars for the students. This event has over 40 sponsors and who provide financial, in-kind and food support. The race starts and ends at Main School. You can run a 1-mile run, the 5k run, and or a 10k run. An award ceremony immediately follows the end of the race! The course goes through Carpinteria, the Bluffs along the ocean, and returns to Main School.

Student's in every School receives services or education support with money raised. Every student is credited an equal amount of money. The bad news is that we the student's don't get to decide how we spend the money. The school site council decides where the money goes.
