Penny Drives

Penny Drives

By Ariel Parker and Merritt Howard and Jackson Carbajal

The penny drive is an annual event at Main School. Last year we raised money for the victims of the earthquake in El Salvador, which went to Direct Relief International. This year Main School had two penny drives. The first one was for the victims of September 11th. Our school raised over two thousand dollars. The money went to the Red Cross. We didn't just use pennies. We sent quarters, dimes, pennies, and even dollar bills. The second one was for the children of Afghanistan. What George W. Bush did was he said it would be nice if the children of America would help the children of Afghanistan. We raised over three hundred dollars. The money went to Washington D.C. Both of these times Main School has been pretty successful. We gave the money to America's Fund For Afghan Children.
