Hours: Monday-Friday: 10:00-5:00 and Saturday: 10:00-3:00 Interview with Linda Turner, Mr. Hurley's secretary.
Ben V.: How long has Hurley Optical been in business? Mrs. Turner: Hurley Optical has been here for 13 years this May. It was previously owned by Ken Millhollin, who raised his family here in Carpinteria.
Mrs. T.: Originally, this building was the old carriage garage where they used to work on the buggies. It has not been rebuilt but has been renovated and well maintained by the Baker family, who have owned the building for many years. In years past this building has also been an art gallery, a bridal shop, and a t.v. repair shop. B.V.: What type of customers does Hurley Optical serve? Mrs. T: Hurley Optical makes glasses for people of all ages. Mr. Hurley makes glasses for Carpinteria school children who are referred by the local Lions Club and also by the Migrant Education Program. The Carpinteria Lions Club budgets several thousand dollars a year to provide eye exams and glasses for local children with financial needs. Hurley Optical also has a box where people can donate their old glasses. Mr. Hurley groups the donated glasses according to their prescription and the Lions Club sends them out to fulfill people's needs around the world.
